SPMCIL deeply values Research and Development endeavors and is committed to constantly innovate and develop solutions & processes that advance its growth.
In accordance with Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) guidelines, SPMCIL has a thorough R&D Policy enabling it to have a framework under which R & D activities are carried out at its nine units – Paper Mills/Currency & Security Presses /Mints.
SPMCIL delves into sovereign functions of Currency printing and security ink production; Security printing; Banknote Paper production and Coin (circulating and commemorative) and medal production.
The SPMCIL R&D division research efforts are focused in areas of importance to SPMCIL sovereign functions. Taking into account the niche nature of business verticals and specialized requirements, the R & D Structure within in SPMCIL has following view-

SPMCIL is in long term collaboration and MOU with various esteemed National institution/labs like Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Delhi; Central Pulp& Paper Research institute (CPPRI), Saharanpur; National Chemical Laboratory (NCL),Pune; Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT)- Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, CSIR -Central Electrochemical Research Institute(CECRI), Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu and CSIR- National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Delhi to carry out R &D in following domains-
